‘A very, very tiny minority is ruining the lives of other people’ and it’s NOT Just Stop Oil: letter to the editor

Dear Editor,

Some of your readers may have seen coverage of the protest by Just Stop Oil at Chelsea Flower Show. The Daily Mail reports a Conservative MP as responding:

“When a very, very tiny minority is ruining the lives of other people, action needs to be taken.”

The MP totally misses the irony of this comment. It is precisely the behaviour of a very, very tiny minority of super-rich people ruining the planet for the rest of us, that lead Just Stop Oil to be taking action.

Our Prime Minister flying around in helicopters and private jets, at enormous cost to the taxpayer, and heating his private swimming pool, doesn’t do much towards his own government’s targets to reduce global warming. Has anyone told him that many people are struggling to pay fuel bills, because of his failure to invest in renewable energy, or to insulate the homes of the poorest (as Insulate Britain requested)?

John Stewart,

Totnes
