Sandra Semple led a campaign to stop Tesco building a large store in Seaton - residents preferring plans for a smaller Sainsbury's with better community benefits. She was elected Mayor of the town in 2007 and served until 2011 when Tesco received planning permission. She now lives in retirement in Exeter and takes no part in local politics.
