‘Brexit has failed’, says Nigel Farage.
Brexit is ‘unfinished business by a long way.’
The former UKIP leader and leading Brexit protagonist admits that businesses may now be more heavily regulated than when the UK was in the EU.
Mr Farage told BBC Newsnight last night:
‘We have not actually benefited from Brexit economically, what we could have done.
‘What Brexit has proved, I’m afraid, is that our politicians are about as useless as the commissioners in Brussels were.’
He added,
‘Arguably, now we are back in control, we are regulating our own businesses even more than they were as EU members.
‘Brexit has failed.
‘We have not delivered on borders, we have not delivered on Brexit, the Tories have let us down very, very badly.’
Is there a more powerful argument to have a new vote on Brexit?
Actually, yes, there is.
Exactly seven years ago today, on 16 May 2016, the then UKIP leader told the Daily Mirror that if Remain scraped through with a narrow win, he’d want another referendum.
In those circumstances, Mr Farage predicted, there would be growing pressure to re-run the vote.
Just 38 days before the referendum, Mr Farage said:
‘In a 52 per cent -48 per cent referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way.’
Farage was right. Brexit is unfinished business by a long way.
Polls for some years consistently show that a significant majority of British voters consider Brexit to be a mistake and would now vote to re-join the EU.
There IS growing pressure to re-run the vote, as Farage predicted there would be – and should be – if the result was 52 per cent -48 per cent.
