Dear Editor,
Does anyone else wonder where our diplomats in the US have been over the past six months? All this madness keeps being presented as if it came out literally yesterday. Yet another way of isolating the UK, making Brexit even worse.
It’s sobering to think that almost US $5tn [now $9.3tn] has been wiped off the US stock market over two days. That’s considerably more than the value of the entire UK economy ($3.05tn).
Meanwhile, normally sane Tory, Jeremy Hunt, brings up the idiotic Singapore-on-Thames idea. Notice it’s never Singapore in the eastern Atlantic, just London, which virtually is Singapore [from a business perspective] already. These ‘successful’ tiny states only work because they are small and have limited overall impact. Scaling it up to the UK would see increased tariffs from the US and EU.
Just b***** rejoin rather than trying to model our economy on place with only 6 million people and surrounded by comparatively low-impact economies, not next door to economic giants like Germany and France. God help us if that’s what an Oxbridge education does for you.
Incidentally, Trump has also put tariffs on Diego Garcia – an island in the Indian Ocean which has nothing on it but a large US military base and a long runway!
