I have long been disgusted by the indisputable fact that South West Water wilfully and regularly dumps sewage as a profitable policy. I was again reminded of this as I watched the TV drama ‘Dirty Business’, and the scale of it is even worse than I ever imagined.
SWW are not only committing public health crime and an environmental crime, but they are also actively defrauding me and every other customer who pays their sewage surcharge. I, in good faith, pay for them to take my waste away and treat it to make it safe, when in reality I could have just done my business in a bucket for all of these years and thrown it into the local stream, as it would cut out the middle man and have exactly the same outcome.
It is high time that this national disgrace of privately-owned utility companies comes to an end. They have creamed off hundreds of billions of pounds in profit over the decades and that is money that should have been in public hands that entire time for use by the government to fund public schemes.
I call on you and all MPs to have these failures renationalised with zero compensation to the leeching shareholders. I call on you and all MPs to see that the executive class and any politicians who have taken the devil’s shilling serve jail time and get asset-stripped to repair the damage they have wilfully done.
The other national disgrace that is Peter Mandelson has long lobbied for the water companies, and the fact that the Prime Minister has so far ruled out the renationalisation of water screams of corruption. Lobbying and corruption needs to be wiped out if Labour are ever to have a chance of winning the next election and avoiding handing it to Farage’s party on a plate!
