Last month, I wrote to the Speaker of the House of Commons asking for confirmation that Trump would not be given the honour of addressing Parliament during any upcoming State Visit. The Speaker replied, confirming that no such request had been received – at that time.

Since then, however, Donald Trump has announced that he expects to return to the UK this September for an unprecedented second State Visit, and there have been credible media reports that the preparations are well underway.
In light of this, I’ve written to the Speaker again, asking for an urgent update and making our position crystal clear.

Parliament should not honour a man who has consistently undermined democratic institutions, stoked division, and shown contempt for the rule of law.
This isn’t just about some dry diplomatic protocol, it’s about our fundamental values.
Please consider becoming part of a growing movement to defend democracy from those who would twist it to serve their own egos and agendas. That’s why this campaign is so important and so urgent. Trump does not value democracy. He see’s it only as a disguise for his autocratic ambitions. We cannot allow our Parliament to become a platform for his anti-democratic agenda.
While we await Speaker Hoyle’s reply, my team are working on correspondence to send to all MPs (requesting their support), further public briefings, and plans to mobilise and protest should our calls be ignored and an invitation issued.
If you’re with us, please help in whatever way you can. Sign the petition if you haven’t already done so. Share it with your friends and on your social media. And – if you are in a position to do so – please make a small donation to help us scale up this work quickly.
We won’t let this decision slip through behind closed doors. Not without scrutiny. Not without resistance.
Thank you for being part of this important campaign.
