This is going to be a no-holds-barred piece…and it needs to be, because something appalling is happening that, frankly, tops all the very many appalling things that have and are still happening under Boris Johnson’s reign of horror.
Covid is killing and harming kids. Lots of them. It’s not mild. It’s not benign. It’s not something you expose kids to so that they get that fantasy goal of ‘herd immunity’. It’s not like a chicken pox party (also a very stupid idea). They aren’t becoming immune. Some are catching it again.
This should be headline news.
Boris Johnson, to appease the madmen and women in the so-called Covid Recovery Group and stave off his defenestration, has abandoned Covid-19 mitigations to save his own political skin. And don’t call them restrictions. They are protection measures, designed to keep us safe, designed to protect the most vulnerable in our society. But, hey, let’s live in Johnson’s land of lies and delusions! Let’s pretend it’s been safe to open schools without mitigations in place. Let’s pretend it’s fine for kids to be terrified of catching Covid or of passing it on to their vulnerable relatives.
It. Is. Not. Fine.

I’ve written before about the callous way in which the Clinically (Extremely)Vulnerable (CEV/CV) have been thrown under the bus. Now this government is throwing children under, too. And don’t tell me that this is not more evidence of the same cruel mentality which seeded Covid in care homes.

Well, Professor Balloux, it looks pretty like eugenics to me and a whole host of other people, too., especially when ALL kids, regardless of their vulnerability, are mandated to be in school with no requirement for masks or for ventilation to be in place… but, instead, with Sajid Javid saying that permission from the Department of Education is needed for a school to request that masks be worn. WHAT?
139 children have died from Covid, nearly 50 per cent of them since so-called Freedom Day…the day we were all free to shed our concern for anybody else.
139 dead.
So far.
According to the most recent data from the Department for Education, a staggering 400,000 children are absent from school and missing in-person education.
1 in 13 primary school aged children are infected with Covid-19 and 1 in 8 children are absent from school. (Imperial REACT-1 Study, 26th January 2022)
3.4 million confirmed child Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began.
16,703 children hospitalised, of whom 8656 were aged five or under.
And the daily numbers continue to rise.
And that’s before we talk about Long Covid.
It is apparent that Long Covid is the legacy of this novel neurotropic virus.
ONS prevalence data currently indicate that 117,000 children and young people are living with Long Covid; 20,000 of whom are still experiencing symptoms after 12 months.
Research evidences risk of:
- Myocarditis
- Neurocognitive impairment
- New type I and Type 2 diabetes cases.
Catching Covid is creating a whole new cohort of CEV/CV, adding to those already immunosuppressed or immunocompromised. But, yeah, let’s pretend it’s mild. Let’s pretend it won’t affect some children’s prospects and quality of life. Let’s have our freedoms and all praise King Boris, the saviour of us all and the deliverer of the vaccine. Never mind that tens of thousands of children are unvaccinated or won’t acquire full protection because of pre-existing conditions.
Human rights are being breached left, right and centre. Where is the outrage? Where is the mainstream media? Why are we normalising death and long term damage? Why?
We need action now. HEPA filters in every classroom. Mask-wearing brought back. Kids know why masks are important. Don’t patronise them. Remote learning has to be provided for the CEV/CV families and for kids off school.
And we have to stop pretending that we are beating the virus, getting back to ‘normal’ and everything is hunky-dory. It isn’t.
Why aren’t MPs and the mainstream media calling out this goverment for gambling with children’s lives?
Come on! We are better than this!
